HOW TO USE
1) Press START (loads the gradient)
2) Optional: FULLSCREEN for best visibility
3) Switch RAMP to test each colour channel
4) Change DIR to spot directional artifacts
5) Exit: ESC or tap/click screen
WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR
Smooth: a continuous fade with no visible steps.
Banding: distinct stripes across the ramp.
Blotches: patchy areas = compression or processing.
Tint: grey ramp should not lean red/green/blue.
BEST RESULTS
Use native resolution (no browser zoom).
Disable “dynamic contrast” / “vivid” picture modes.
Try multiple brightness levels (some panels band more at low).
FAQ
Is banding always a fault? not always — it can be content/compression.
Why does it change with brightness? some panels use different dimming methods.
Why is red worse? channel precision + processing differs by device.
Can I fix it? try different picture modes, reduce sharpening/contrast.
TV / MONITOR TIPS
TVs: enable “Game/PC mode” to reduce processing.
Monitors: check 8-bit vs 10-bit output if supported.
Browsers: avoid zoom; it can introduce resampling.
SAFETY
No flashing here, but avoid long max brightness use.
OLED: don’t leave bright ramps on for hours.
MINI BLOG
Banding is easiest to spot on smooth gradients — especially in dark tones.
If the grey ramp shows stripes, try a different picture mode and lower contrast slightly.
Testing each colour channel helps separate display limits from content compression.
