ACCELERATION FORMULAS
P642-3
a, v, u and t
ACCELERATION FORMULAS
FIND ACCELERATION
a = (v − u) ÷ t
FIND FINAL VELOCITY
v = u + at
FIND INITIAL VELOCITY
u = v − at
FIND TIME
t = (v − u) ÷ a
WORKED EXAMPLES
P642-4
Clear substitution
WORKED EXAMPLES
ACCELERATION
u = 4, v = 20, t = 4, so a = (20 − 4) ÷ 4 = 4 m/s².
FINAL VELOCITY
u = 3, a = 2, t = 5, so v = 3 + 2 × 5 = 13 m/s.
INITIAL VELOCITY
v = 30, a = 4, t = 5, so u = 30 − 4 × 5 = 10 m/s.
TIME
v = 20, u = 5, a = 3, so t = (20 − 5) ÷ 3 = 5 s.
