WHAT THIS TOOL DOES
REDUCE RATIOS TO SIMPLEST FORM
This calculator simplifies two-part ratios such as 12:18.
It finds the highest common factor.
Then it divides both sides by that number.
It can also scale the simplified ratio to a target.
HOW TO USE
PART A • PART B • SCALE
Enter Part A and Part B.
Leave SCALE off for a simple reduced ratio.
Choose MAKE A TARGET or MAKE B TARGET to scale.
Press SIMPLIFY or Enter.
EXAMPLES
COMMON SIMPLIFIED RATIOS
12:18 has HCF 6, so 12:18 = 2:3.
24:36 has HCF 12, so 24:36 = 2:3.
15:25 has HCF 5, so 15:25 = 3:5.
40:100 has HCF 20, so 40:100 = 2:5.
SCALE EXAMPLE
MAKE ONE SIDE MATCH A TARGET
Simplify 12:18 to 2:3 first.
If A must become 10, multiply both sides by 5.
The equivalent ratio is 10:15.
If B must become 21, the answer is 14:21.
BENEFITS
CLEAR HCF METHOD
Shows the HCF used to reduce the ratio.
Shows the division step for both parts.
Keeps the original and simplified ratio clear.
Handles scaling after simplification.
FAQ
RATIO QUESTIONS
How is a ratio simplified? Divide both parts by their HCF.
Can it scale ratios? Yes, choose a target side.
Can a part be zero? 0:A and A:0 are allowed.
Need HCF itself? Use Page 627 HCF And LCM.
