WEIGHTED AVERAGE CALCULATOR
P672CALCULATOR
WORKING
WHAT THIS TOOL DOES
P672This calculator finds a weighted average when each value does not count equally.
It is useful for grades, coursework, modules, credits, assessment parts, scores and any data where some items carry more weight than others.
HOW TO USE
P672Type each value in the value box and its matching weight in the weight box.
Press SOLVE to calculate the weighted mean. Leave a pair at zero weight if it should not be included.
FORMULA
P672Each value is multiplied by its weight. The products are added together, then divided by the total of all weights.
WORKED EXAMPLE
P672The weighted average is 60.
WHAT WEIGHTS MEAN
P672A weight tells the calculator how much a value counts compared with the other values.
A value with weight 2 counts twice as much as a value with weight 1. A value with weight 0 is ignored.
EXAM AND GRADE USE
P672Use weighted averages when coursework, tests or modules have different percentages, credits or importance.
For example, one exam might count for 60 percent and coursework might count for 40 percent.
ROUNDING
P672Choose 0, 1, 2 or 3 decimal places depending on how precise the final weighted mean needs to be.
The calculator completes the full calculation first, then rounds the displayed answer.

This page answers those searches with a visible calculator, formula, example and related grade tools.
FAQ
P672The total weight must be greater than zero. If all weights are zero, there is no valid weighted average to calculate.
Set at least one weight above zero to include a value in the result.
